Greeks look to Cyprus for opportunity

first_imgData from the Open University of Cyprus (OUC) has revealed that the island has been a popular choice for Greek academics and students seeking work and educational opportunities to beat the effects of the financial crisis. For example, a job vacancy to teach at OUC on a three-year contract open to PhD holders received 1,200 applications – a whopping 875 of them were from Greece alone.Speaking to Kathimerini, head of the International Relations, Development and Communications Unit at the OUC, Erato-Ioanna Sarri says the majority of applicants are up to 40 years of age and are “looking for work at a time when competition in the Greek market is fierce”.Meanwhile teaching opportunities in Cyprus have also been found to be popular among teachers with vast experience, having worked across Greek universities, who are seeking to increase their income, but fail to find the opportunities to do so in Greece.
